While on your daily run you might have started to notice a pain in your foot, which was localized to the base of your big toe. Then you began to notice discomfort in the ball of your foot. Once the pain didn’t go away and you found that you could no longer enjoy those daily runs, you knew it was time to visit our podiatrist in Chandler. We’re sure glad you did!
If you were diagnosed with a bunion, you probably didn’t know too much about it before your doctor’s visit. However, we’re here to help. If you have a bunion and you want to know how to quell the pain and enjoy your day-to-day activities once more, we’re here to tell you how.
- Our Chandler area foot doctor will often recommend over-the-counter pain relievers to help relieve inflammation; however, if the swelling is severe, we might prescribe a stronger medication.
- If you have a painful bunion in Chandler you might find some relief from a heating pad or a soothing footbath. However, if the warmth doesn’t provide some TLC for your bunion pain, then you might want to try ice packs. While heat tends to work better, some patients have found solace in cold packs.
- If you caught the bunion early enough and you weren’t in constant pain, then you’re in luck. Hopefully all you’ll need is to purchase some well-fitting shoes. Sure it might seem rather extravagant to get a nice part of shoes, but it will be well worth the investment when you can enjoy your daily activities without discomfort. For added protection, we might even recommend orthoses like bunion pads or shoes inserts, should the need arise; however, sometimes the extra pressure and thickness can cause more pain, so we don’t recommend this as often.
- If the pain is just too severe and you’ve found no relief from any of the above remedies, it might be time to talk to our Chandler podiatrist about surgery.
